The preserved knowledge
Preserved in the Vault
This is Abdul's Craft DNA — knowledge captured for researchers, apprentices, and future generations.
Lineage
- Sopore-based carvers since 1900; the orchard supplies the wood directly.
- Two sons learn the chisel; one prefers the architectural panel work.
Technique Walkthrough
- Undercut depth is set before the first surface cut.
- Each curl is freed only after the surrounding leaf is fully shaped.
Decision Knowledge
- If the wood shows a grain split, undercut work is abandoned for that piece.
- Pieces are signed only after the lift is tested by lightly pressing the freed layer.
Supplier Graph
- Walnut from his own orchard.
- Tools forged by a Sopore blacksmith — the same family for ninety years.
